On September 25, 2025, the Coast Day<\/em> event, held in Gammarth, Tunisia, brought together over 170 participants\u2014including representatives from institutions, experts, and media\u2014to honor those committed to protecting Mediterranean coastal areas. Under the theme \u201cBehind every thriving coastline are people and institutions working tirelessly to protect it,\u201d<\/em> the event highlighted the crucial role of institutions at the local, regional, national, and international levels in safeguarding coastal ecosystems, while calling for collective mobilization towards a sustainable future.<\/p>\n

The day opened with keynote speeches emphasizing the importance of international cooperation as well as national and local initiatives in addressing current environmental challenges. Two panel discussions then animated the exchanges: the first focused on the role of international institutions in the sustainable management of coastal zones, while the second explored the evolution of national institutions and their contributions to coastal environmental protection.<\/p>\n

A presentation of a zonal management tool for Lella Hadhria (Djerba) captivated participants, showcasing concrete solutions for integrated and sustainable coastal governance. In the afternoon, an exhibition on marine biodiversity highlighted recent research and local projects aimed at preserving marine ecosystems, within the framework of the ORIENTATE Tunis project.<\/p>\n

With such numerous participants, significant media coverage, and fruitful exchanges, this edition further strengthened its role as a major platform for dialogue and action in the Mediterranean. Organizers praised the commitment of all stakeholders and called for continued efforts toward resilient and protected coasts, reminding that \u201ccoastal protection is a shared responsibility between institutions, researchers, civil society, and citizens.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
