On 3 December 2025<\/strong>, from 13:30 to 14:30<\/strong>, PAP\/RAC and RAED – Arab Network for Environment & Development will jointly host a high-level side event at COP24<\/strong> in Astor Plenary Hall (Floor 1)<\/strong>, Cairo.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The side event, entitled \u201cInclusive Pathways towards a Regional Vision for Integrated Coastal and Marine Management\u201d<\/strong>, will bring together key regional institutions and national authorities to explore practical and inclusive approaches to sustainable coastal and marine governance in the Mediterranean. Participants will include leading regional organisations such as Plan Bleu, SPA\/RAC and the League of Arab States, alongside national representatives.<\/p>\n

A platform for regional cooperation<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The event will focus on strengthening regional cooperation and promoting a shared vision for integrated coastal zone management (ICZM) and marine spatial planning (MSP). It will highlight how coordinated regional action, science-based planning and inclusive governance can contribute to a healthier, more resilient and productive Mediterranean.<\/p>\n

As part of the session, PAP\/RAC will present its coordinating role in regional Marine Spatial Planning, building on the Conceptual Framework for Implementing MSP in the Mediterranean adopted at COP23 (Decision IG.26\/10<\/a>). Key regional tools will be presented, including the work of the MSP Working Group, the Position Paper for Advancing MSP in the Mediterranean, and the Roadmap for MSP Implementation up to 2030, which support countries in strengthening national MSP processes and regional cooperation.<\/p>\n

Voices from practitioners<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The session will also feature national examples of effective cooperation in MSP implementation. Partners from Albania, Tunisia and T\u00fcrkiye will present practical experiences and achievements in collaboration with PAP\/RAC, including contributions from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change of T\u00fcrkiye, the Ministry of Environment of Albania, and the Coastal Protection and Planning Agency (APAL) of Tunisia.<\/p>\n

This exchange of regional perspectives and national experiences will help outline practical pathways for stronger cooperation and more effective coastal and marine management across the Mediterranean, in line with the objectives of UNEP\/MAP and the Barcelona Convention.<\/p>\n
