400;\">DESTINATIONS aimed to improve the sustainability of tourism in coastal areas by strengthening planning approaches and promoting better integration of environmental and development considerations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In particular, it aimed to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">promote sustainable tourism development in Mediterranean coastal areas<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">integrate environmental considerations into tourism planning and management<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">support more balanced use of coastal resources<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">strengthen awareness of the impacts of tourism on coastal ecosystems<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">encourage the adoption of sustainable practices and long-term planning approaches<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Main results<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DESTINATIONS contributed to improving the basis for sustainable tourism planning through targeted analyses and pilot applications.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The main results include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">development of planning approaches supporting sustainable tourism in coastal areas<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">identification of key pressures from tourism activities and their environmental impacts<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">promotion of integrated planning concepts linking tourism development and environmental protection<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">implementation of pilot actions in selected Mediterranean coastal destinations<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">increased awareness and capacity for sustainable tourism management<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Role of PAP\/RAC<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PAP\/RAC coordinated the project and contributed to promoting integrated coastal management approaches in the context of tourism development in Algeria, Marocco and Tunisia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Through its involvement, PAP\/RAC supported the application of ICZM principles to tourism planning, helping to frame sustainable tourism as part of broader coastal management processes and strengthening the link between environmental protection and economic development in coastal
