{"id":8141,"date":"2026-03-31T07:41:53","date_gmt":"2026-03-31T07:41:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staging.paprac.org\/projects\/gef-medpartnership-climvar\/"},"modified":"2026-06-01T15:01:27","modified_gmt":"2026-06-01T15:01:27","slug":"gef-medpartnership-climvar","status":"publish","type":"project","link":"https:\/\/staging.paprac.org\/hr\/projekti\/gef-medpartnership-climvar\/","title":{"rendered":"GEF MedPartnership &#038; ClimVAR"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Partnership<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">UNEP\/MAP Barcelona Convention system<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Participating countries\u00a0: Albania, Algeria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Egypt, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Montenegro, Palestine, Syria, Tunisia and Turkiye<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Key objectives<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MedPartnership aimed to strengthen environmental governance and support coordinated implementation of regional commitments across the Mediterranean.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In particular, it sought to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">support implementation of SAP-MED and SAP-BIO priorities<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">advance the implementation of the ICZM Protocol<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">strengthen national legal, policy and institutional frameworks<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">promote integrated approaches to coastal and marine management<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">support development and implementation of National Action Plans<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">test and replicate practical solutions through demonstration projects<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Main results<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MedPartnership generated a comprehensive set of policy, methodological and practical outputs supporting integrated coastal and marine management.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The main results include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">implementation of 78 demonstration projects addressing key environmental challenges<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">strengthened legal and institutional frameworks supporting ICZM implementation<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">development and application of integrated management approaches across sectors and scales<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">enhanced capacity building and knowledge transfer across participating countries<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">improved alignment of national actions with regional priorities under the Barcelona Convention<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Role of PAP\/RAC<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Within the MedPartnership project, PAP\/RAC played a central role in advancing ICZM policy, methodology and implementation across the Mediterranean.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In particular, PAP\/RAC contributed to strengthening national legal and institutional frameworks for ICZM, including support for harmonisation with the ICZM Protocol through analytical work, case studies and regional workshops. It developed key methodological outputs, including the Integrated Methodological Framework (IMF) for coastal, river basin and aquifer management, and the Guidelines for the preparation of National ICZM Strategies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PAP\/RAC also led several demonstration activities, including the preparation of National ICZM Strategies for Algeria, Croatia and Montenegro, and coastal plans in Reghaia (Algeria) and \u0160ibenik-Knin County (Croatia), including a focus on climate variability and change.
