Key objectives
The project focused on four principal targets:
- Improve scientific knowledge and applied research in Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM)
- Promote the development of effective and user-friendly Decision Support Systems (DSS) tools for policymakers
- Establish durable links among scientific institutions, governmental organisations, SMEs, and other stakeholders
- Increase public awareness and stakeholder engagement in water management
Main results
NOSTRUM-DSS produced practical tools and knowledge products to support sustainable water governance in the Mediterranean, including national reports, databases, training materials, and the “Best Practices Guidelines for the Design and Implementation of Decision Support Systems (DSS) Tools for IWRM.” A three-dimensional decision-support tool was also developed to assist policymakers with step-by-step guidance.
The project enabled a regional review of water management challenges, integrated climate change considerations into water planning, and strengthened cooperation between scientists, policymakers, and stakeholders through workshops and structured consultations. While successful in fostering dialogue and knowledge exchange, the project highlighted the need for improved dissemination and sustained funding to ensure long-term impact.
